Services I Provide

Individual Therapy

My clients range in age from five years and up.

My specialties include: substance use disorder , Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), intergenerational and racial trauma, depression, anxiety, finding meaning in life, and helping clients develop effective coping skills for the struggles that bring them to treatment. I also have a special interest in helping couples and families come together and find solutions when a family member is struggling with substance use or abuse.

My deliverance when working with clients is collaborative and non-judgmental. My theoretical orientation is client-centered, existential, and faith-based. I believe transformation is achieved through a higher power combined with psychotherapy.

I’m not afraid to be flexible in my approach. Everyone is different; everyone responds to therapeutic interventions differently.

Substance Use Disorders & Related Couples & Family Counseling

I am a certified Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP). When working with individuals grappling with substance use, I approach them from a strengths-based perspective. I pay particular attention to where they are on their journey and apply the Stages of Change process. In working with couples and families grappling with a family member’s substance use if apply a Systems Theory perspective considering family dynamics and roles.

In thi swork, we focus on co-dependency patterns and, in work with couples and families, how they can support their family member in a healthy way, finding a balance between love and support and boundaries.

“Substance use disorders occur when the recurrent use of alcohol and/or drugs causes clinically significant impairment, including health problems, disability, and failure to meet major responsibilities at work, school, or home.”

Intergenerational & Racial Trauma Work

I have a special interest in working with individual adults and children who have experienced and are experiencing effects of trauma. My time teaching and counseling at the Union Gospel Mission’s Hope Place honed my understanding of the positive impact that is possible when we are able to process and work through trauma experiences. I have particular experience working with boys traumatized in domestic violence situations, and use Lifespan Intergration techniques when working with children and adult clients grappling with trauma.

“The body, not the thinking brain, is where we experience most of our pain, pleasure, and joy, and where we process most of what happens to us. It is also where we do most of our healing, including our emotional and psychological healing. And it is where we experience resilience and a sense of flow.”
